Кто смиреннее травинки, терпеливее дерева, почитает всех и каждого и не ищет почета для себя, тот способен вечно славить Святое Имя Кришны!

 

Песня третья

ш́рӣ-кр̣ш̣н̣а-кӣрттане джоди ма̄наса тоха̄ра
парама джатане та̄̐хи лобхо адхика̄ра

(1) Если твой ум всегда погружен в воспевание Святого Имени, ты обретешь необходимые качества для подлинного воспевания.

 

тр̣н̣а̄дхика хӣна, дӣна, акин̃чана чха̄ра
а̄пане ма̄ноби сада̄ чха̄д̣и’ ахан̇ка̄ра

(2) Будучи смиреннее травинки, считая себя недостойным и убогим, отбрось свое ложное эго.

 

вр̣кха-сама кхама̄-гун̣а короби са̄дхана
пратихим̇са̄ тйаджи анйе короби па̄лана

(3) Будь терпелив, словно дерево. Ты должен все прощать и сносить, отказавшись от насилия. Заботься о других и защищай их.

 

джӣвана-нирва̄хе а̄не удвега на̄ дибе
пара-упака̄ре ниджа-сукха па̄ш́арибе

(4) Живи, не причиняя беспокойств другим. Делай добро, не помышляя о собственном благополучии.

 

хоиле-о сарва-гун̣е гун̣ӣ маха̄ш́ойа
пратхиш̣т̣ха̄ш́а̄ чха̄д̣и коро ама̄нӣ хр̣дойа

(5) Великая душа, наделенная всеми этими качествами, не должна гордиться святостью, но, отвергая почести и престиж, должна всегда оставаться смиренной.

 

кр̣ш̣н̣а-адхиш̣т̣ха̄н сарва-джӣве джа̄ни сада̄
короби самма̄на собе а̄даре сарвада̄

(6) Помня о том, что Кришна находится в сердцах всех живых существ, ты должен постоянно оказывать надлежащее почтение другим.

 

доинйа, дойа̄, анйе ма̄н пратиш̣т̣ха̄-варджан
ча̄ри-гун̣е гун̣ӣ хои корохо кӣрттан

(7) Смирение, милосердие, уважение других и отказ от почестей — четыре качества, необходимые для совершения киртана.

Śrī Śikṣāṣṭakam

 

The third verse of the Śrī Śikṣāṣṭakam is as follows:

tṛṇād api sunīchena
taror iva sahiṣṇunā
amāninā mānadena
kīrttanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ

One who is humbler than a blade of grass, more forbearing than a tree who gives due honour to others without desiring it for himself is qualified to always chant the Holy Name of Krishna.

 

Song 3

śrī-kṛṣṇa-kīrttane jodi mānasa tohāra
parama jatane tā̐hi lobho adhikāra

(1) If your mind is always carefully absorbed in the chanting of the Holy Name, then you will become qualified for chanting the Holy Name of Krishna.

 

ṭṛṇādhika hīna, dīna, akiñchana chāra
āpane mānobi sadā chāḍi’ ahaṅkāra

(2) Humbler than a blade of grass considering yourself low, poor, and mean, give up your false ego.

 

vṛkṣa-sama kṣamā-guṇa korobi sādhana
pratihiṁsā tyaji anye korobi pālana

(3) Tolerant as a tree, you should forgive and forbear, giving up violence. Practice nurturing and protecting others.

 

jīvana-nirvāhe āne udvega nā dibe
para-upakāre nija-sukha pāsaribe

(4) Live without causing anxiety to others; do good unto others without considering your own happiness.

 

hoile-o sarvva-guṇe guṇī mahāśoy
pratiṣṭhāśā chāḍi koro amānī hṛdoy

(5) A great soul who has all these qualities should not become proud of his saintly qualities, but, giving up position and prestige he should always remain prideless within his heart.

 

kṛṣṇa-adhiṣṭhān sarvva-jīve jāni sadā
korobi sammāna sobe ādare sarvvadā

(6) Always knowing that Krishna dwells within the hearts of all living beings, you should always properly respect and honour others.

 

doinya, doyā, anye mān, pratiṣṭhā-varjjan
chāri guṇe guṇī hoi koroho kīrttan

(7) Humility, mercy, consideration of others, and giving up position are the four qualities needed to perform kīrttan.

 

bhakativinoda kā̐di bole prabhu-pāya
heno adhikāra kobe dibe he āmāya

(8) Bhaktivinoda, crying at the Lord’s holy feet says, “O my Lord, when will You bestow upon me the qualifications for Krishna-kīrttan?”

yadi—If tohāra [āchchhe]—you have mānasa—a mind kīrtane—to chant śrī-kṛṣṇa—the Name of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, [then with] parama—great yatane—care, labha—get adhikāra—the qualification ta̐hi—for that. [1]

If you aspire to chant the Name of Kṛṣṇa, then, with great care, become qualified to do so.


tṛṇādhika hīna, dīna, akiñchana, chhāra
āpane mānabi sadā chhāḍi’ ahaṅkāra [2]

chhāḍi’—Give up [your] ahaṅkāra—false ego, [and] sadā—always mānabi—consider āpane—yourself hīna—lower adhika—than tṛṇa—grass, dīna—poor, akiñchana—needy, [and] chhāra—mean. [2]

Give up your false ego, and always consider yourself lower than grass, poor, needy, and mean.


vṛkṣa-sama kṣamā-guṇa karabi sādhana
pratihiṁsā tyaji’ anye karabi pālana [3]

sādhana karabi—Practise guṇa—the quality kṣamā—of tolerance sama—like vṛkṣa—a tree. tyaji’—Give up pratihiṁsā—vengeance [and] pālana karabi—nurture anye—others. [3]

Practise tolerance like a tree. Give up vengeance and nurture others.


jīvana-nirvāhe āne udvega nā dibe
para-upakāre nija-sukha pāsaribe [4]

dibe nā—Do not cause udvega—anxiety āne—to others jīvana-nirvāhe—for the maintenance of [your] life, [and] pāsaribe—forget [your] nija—own sukha—happiness upakāre—in the course of helping para—others. [4]

Do not trouble others for your own upkeep, and forget your own happiness in the course of helping others.


ha-ileo sarva-guṇe guṇī mahāśaya
pratiṣṭhāśā chhāḍi’ kara amānī hṛdaya [5]

ha-ileo—Even if you are mahāśaya—honourable [and] guṇī—qualified [with] sarva—all guṇe—qualities, chhāḍi’—give up āśā—desire pratiṣṭhā—for prestige [and] kara—make [your] hṛdaya—heart amānī—prideless. [5]

Even if you are honourable and qualified with all qualities, give up desire for prestige and make heart your prideless.


kṛṣṇa-adhiṣṭhāna sarva-jīve jāni’ sadā
karabi sammāna sabe ādare sarvadā
[6]

jāni’—Knowing [that] sarva—every jīve—soul [is] sadā—eternally adhiṣṭhāna—an abode kṛṣṇa—of Kṛṣṇa, sarvadā—always ādare—respectfully sammāna karabi—honour sabe—everyone. [6]

Knowing Kṛṣṇa resides eternally within every soul, always respectfully honour everyone.


dainya, dayā, anye māna, pratiṣṭhā-varjana
chāri guṇe guṇī hai’ karaha kīrtana [7]

dainya—Humility, dayā—compassion, māna—honouring anye—others, [and] varjana—giving up pratiṣṭhā—prestige—hai’—become guṇī—qualified [with these] chāri—four guṇe—qualities [and] kīrtana karaha—chant. [7]

Humility, compassion, honouring others, and giving up prestige—become qualified with these four qualities and chant the Name.


bhakati-vinoda kā̐di’ bale prabhu-pāya
“heno adhikāra kabe dibe he amāya” [8]

kā̐di’—Crying pāya—at the feet prabhu—of the Lord, bhakati-vinoda—Bhakti Vinod bale—says, “he—“O kabe—when dibe—will You give amāya—me hena—these adhikāra”—qualifications?” [8]

Crying at the feet of the Lord, Bhakti Vinod says, “O when will You give me these qualifications?”
