First, I am giving a sastanga-dandavat to our Gurudev Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj, all the Guru-varga, all the godbrothers and godsisters, Vaishnavs and devotees.

Actually we are fortunate today, I am very fortunate, because we have again got your association and can meet with you all. One day, two months ago or so, Guru Maharaj asked me, “Do you have time to come to Russia with me?” Actually, I had no time, but when he asked me if I could come to Russia, I could not ignore it.

You know we are very fortunate—we do not know Mahaprabhu, we do not know Krishna, but we know our Gurudev. If we serve him, if we can please him, then we will get a real benefit from Lord Krishna.

We cannot believe it—Guru Maharaj’s (Srila Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj’s) health was not good, he had a mild stroke last year, but he is so kind, again he travels all over the world, comes to London and Russia. We cannot believe what kind of energy he has. He is distributing so many things to the devotees on behalf of Mahaprabhu. Mahaprabhu said,

পৃথিবীতে আছে যত নগরাদি গ্রাম
সর্ব্বত্র প্রচার হইবে মোর নাম

pṛthivīte āche yata nagarādi grāma
sarvatra pracāra haibe mora nāma

“My Name will spread to every village and town on this earth.”

And we can see now how quickly Krishna consciousness is spreading all over the world, and he is the one doing it—without thinking about his health, he is selflessly preaching all over the world.

I heard that Srila Param Guru Maharaj (Srila Sridhar Dev-Goswami Maharaj) was thinking of Govinda Kunda manifest in Nabadwip, Gupta Govardhan, and now the banks have all been repaired and there is now a temple inside it and a guesthouse on the bank. Without Guru Maharaj’s mercy we cannot make this temple, we cannot build this house on the bank of Govinda Kunda, nor can we repair the banks. It is his mercy actually, his desire. Our only service is to try to fulfil his desire—we must try to fulfil his desire. Guru Maharaj always says, “What is bhajan? Bhajan means not following your mind, but following what I tell you.” We must try to do that.

One day Guru Maharaj told me a story that happened to him when he was maybe seventeen or eighteen years old. His Gurudev, Srila Sridhar Maharaj, told him, “Follow me, do not follow your mind,” and he told him later also, “Every morning you must take the rice that is left over from the previous day.” One day Guru Maharaj was going to take that rice, but he saw there was an insect on the rice. His immediate reaction was, “An insect! I will not eat it!” but then he thought suddenly, “Oh, but Gurudev told me, ‘Follow me, do not follow your mind,’” and at once ate that rice.

Actually, we cannot believe how he fulfilled his Gurudev’s desire. I remember it was only last year that we came here in Saint Petersburg and went to the bank of the Baltic Sea with the devotees. Seeing that bank, he thought of Nabadwip, “I wish I could make the bank of Govinda Kunda like this...” I was surprised—he is here, thousands of thousands kilometres away, maybe eating an ice-cream, but he is thinking about Nabadwip. I thought at that time, “Wherever he is, he always thinks about his Nabadwip”—just as Srila Swami Maharaj, I heard, always thought of Vrindavan, even when he was in the West. He thought, “I want to leave my body in Vrindavan,” and Krishna fulfilled his desire—he did leave his body in Vrindavan.

Guru Maharaj always thinks about his Gurudev’s temple, his Gurudev’s bhajan kutir, always thinks about Nabadwip, “How can Nabadwip prosper? How can I improve Nabadwip?”—and Krishna fulfilled his desire, Param Guru Maharaj also always helps him.

I heard one day when he was in America he fell down, but he woke up immediately and his health was all right—because his Gurudev is always behind him. No one can stop, attack, or defeat those who have Gurudev’s backing. It is necessary to have this kind of strong faith. It all depends upon faith. No one can destroy those who have a strong faith in their Gurudev.
