В чем заключается подлинное смирение?

Could you please comment on ideas of humility, tolerance?
What is proper undestanding of those ideas?
Sripad Goswami Maharaj:
Srila Guru Maharaj once said, "Trinad api sunichena — to whom?"
Because on the one hand we think it is something of an universal application.
But what if someone comes to molass The Guru, The Vaisnava, The Deity. Then we should not do anything? Practice humility, tolerance?
He said: is Hanuman's response to kidnapping the Sita — burning the city of Sri Lanka — wasn't the act of humility?
So it depends upon circumstance and also one's position.
We hear that one digvijay pandit — means he's conquered everyone in all directions establishing his supremacy as a debator, scholar, etc.
And Srila Rupa Goswami, Santana Goswami — they're living in Vrindavan, they're writing their works — Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu, Brihad Bhagavtamritam, etc.
And this pandit approches them and he has a paper with a signatures of all of those who admit defeat.
You know, Rupa Goswami and Sanatan Goswami — they're not gonna waste their time on an arrogant scholar — they just... they're already writing bhakti rasa sind... sign their name...
So for them — this is how they're practicing Mahaprabhu's teachings.
They'are being humble, they're tolerating this man, they're showing some honour to him.
So kirtaniya sada harih — they can go on with their hari kirttan in the form of their book creation.
And in one of those books he's writing — the book on devotion, Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu — Rupa Goswami writes in the qualifications of those called bhava bhakti: man-sunyata, the absence of pratistha, the ego of self-establishment.
We might say, "Oh I also wanna do that, I want to be free of this type of ego".
But getting free from that is not the result of wishful thinking.
Like the people who think: whatever you wish for — you'll get that thing.
That's, you know, covered atheism.
So Srila Guru Maharaj points out that man-sunyata or the absence of this ego is because they don't perceive that there is anything of value within this world.
They see that all things of value are in the upper world.
In the subjective world, not the objective world.
The super-subjective world.
The super-super-subjective world.
'Cause Vaikuntha is super-subjective world but Goloka — aprakrita — super-super-subjective.
And what's appearing in the form of books are passive representations of that spiritual substance and wealth.
They're so conscious of the upper world. We hear... how is that said... Srinivas Acharya... nidrahara-vihakadi vijitau... They slept at most an hour and a half — sometimes not.
tyaktva-turnam asesa mandala pati srenim sada tuccha vat
bhutva dina ganeskau karunaya kaupina kanthasritau
gopi-bhava rasamritabdhi lahari kallola magnaumuhur
vande rupa sanatanau raghu yugau sri jiva gopalakau
So without hesitation, without thinking, they signed: defeated by so and so — Rupa Goswami, Sanatan Goswami.
Then that man — he approached Srila Jiva Goswami.
And when he informed him, "Rupa Goswami and Sanatan Goswami have already signed"...
Really? Let me see that? He handed him the paper — he tore that into pieces.
That will never be possible.
Then Srila Jiva Goswami — we can say — he annihilated that arrogant scholar.
So then some sahajiya pseudo-vaisnava, they say, "Oh, Jiva Goswami... This is not a humility, this is some character flaw on his side, he's less qualified".
But Saraswati Thakur defended the position of Jiva Goswami.
Because he can know also in certain sections — like those pseudo-vaisnavas — this will be his "fame" as devotee will be diminished. You understand? Jiva Goswami, he understands by this act pseudo-vaisnavas will say, "Oh, just see..." So he is not interested in his own name and fame. Pratistha is for Guru. His Gurus are Rupa and Sanatan. He cannot tolerate their dignity will not be maintained. He may suffer the loss of his own dignity in service to maintaining the dignity of his guru-varga.
